HGTV's Fine Living (September, 2009) included us in the Great Weekend Getaways of the Northeast, showcasing us in a group of 5 of the best places to escape to. "Where to stay: Stirling House Bed and Breakfast, in Greenport Village, offers a two-night wine package (Vine Time - Holiday Spirits Edition) that includes a Friday night wine and cheese reception, full day guided tour of four world-class wineries and gourmet breakfasts, lunches and dinners each day..."
Distinction Magazine (September, 2008) showcases us in their "Great Getaways...Close to Home" article, saying: "Serene Views with a French influence...location-wise it can't be beat as it's situated just five minutes from downtown Greenport, making it a good choice if you prefer traveling by bus or train rather than by car...Clayton recently received his wine license so guests will be able to enjoy wine tastings from local vineyards at Stirling House."
Wine Enthusiast (July, 2008) says: "With all the eating, drinking and active adventures to be had, comfortable lodging is thankfully close at hand. In Greenport, get in a 19th-century state of mind at the waterfront Stirling House B&B (104 Bay Avenue, www.stirlinghousebandb.com) where the sounds of lapping waves and softly flapping sails lull you to sleep. The Vine Time wine and food package makes the most of the area's assets."
New York Daily News (June, 2008) calls us "The Toast of the Coast" with our Vine Time event:
New York Daily News Article, June, 2008
Coastal Living says: Top 10 Wine Vacations "...Waterfront getaways that offer a toast to the good life-For roll-up-your-sleeves fun, participants toil in the vineyards of Long Island’s renowned wine-producing North Fork. Four-day packages also include lodging at spiffy local inns such as Stirling House Bed & Breakfast, which overlooks Greenport’s harbor. Learn winemaking and tasting techniques, pair foods with wine."
Newsday (May, 2008) says: "Stirling House participates in Vine Time, four-day, three-night packages, $599 a person, in wine country with an al fresco luncheon at one of the wineries, dinners at local restaurants and winery tastings...What's special: In the off-season, owner Clayton Sauer offers 'bread & breakfast,' with bread-baking clinics for guests who fancy combining rest and learning. "They have sold out each time I did it." Sauer, whose mother was French, learned to bake at age 15 in the south of France. There also are periodic lighthouse tours on a luxurious catamaran and staged murder mysteries."
For our New York City guests, the Stirling House was featured in Frommer's new book, "Great Escapes from NYC Without Wheels." They said, "some inns are even close enough to walk to and from the train: The Stirling House B&B, for one, is just blocks from the LIRR Greenport Station."
